Apprentice teaching artist in after-school programs
An apprentice offers artistic skills and assistance to professional teaching artists in after-school programs in the Syracuse City Schools. The ideal candidate should possess a desire to learn about careers opportunities as a teaching artist, and have an interest in arts education. Some background in the arts or education is a requirement for this position.
Qualifications: Experience / technical skills in the arts; usually several years of undergraduate work
Apprentices are needed in several disciplines. Please specify your preference from the list below:
• African dance/drumming
• Media Arts - photo/video/digital
• Music vocal/instrumental
• Theater Arts
• Visual Arts - 2-D, 3-D
Responsibilities:
• Must have reliable transportation and arrive on site at for the time scheduled.
• Ability to work in the classroom environment with students.
• Assist in all aspects of project execution as directed by the teaching artist.
• Help teaching artist with daily material preparation and clean up.
• Communicate with teaching artist about curriculum, project planning and implementation.
Schedule:
October 26, 2009- May 20, 2010 (time can be divided into several-month internships depending on semesters)
Times: Mondays - Thursdays, 2:45 - 4:45

Dance Intern/Assistant Choreographer for Afterschool Program
The ideal candidate should have experience in a college level ballet or jazz dance program. The student will work directly with the dance teacher to assist in choreography and practice with students during weekdays in the afterschool program.
Qualifications: Several years of experience (preferably college level) in a ballet or jazz program
Responsibilities:
• Must have reliable transportation and arrive on site at for the time scheduled
• Ability to work in the classroom environment with students
• Assist in all aspects of project execution as directed by the dance instructor

Arts Administration
Intern will act as administrative assistant to PAE staff. The work involves researching legislative, educational, fundraising, documentation, and/or business relationships in the arts. This will be a multi-disciplinary arts internship, so that students will spend time in studios, galleries, offices, and may take a few field trips with us to Albany, and other cultural agencies in CNY. This position will be designed with individual student interests and skills as a starting point. Training to include: some database management, public relations, aesthetic education, and visual/writing documentation of arts education events.
Qualifications: Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access. Any additional technology skills are beneficial. Educational background in the arts, education or marketing preferred.

• Must be flexible and have the ability to work on different projects as needed.

Documentation Specialist
A specialized opportunity exists for an intern with computer, website, journalistic, and photo/video interests. PAE always seeks to coordinate and showcase the partnerships we fund and support each year. Interviews, articles, press releases, and digital documentation of this work is something that we have the expertise to manage, but little time to go out to sites and gather. Our relationships with the press (paper, radio, and television) are always increasing, and someone that has an interest in journalism may enjoy this opportunity. Training to include: press release writing, public relations, and publication skills.
Qualifications: Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office; writing skills; additional technology skills, including website management and photo and/or video editing. Educational background in the arts, education or journalism preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Must be flexible and have the ability to work on different projects as needed.
• Assist in preparing text and/or visual materials for website and media distribution.
• Go to local schools or other sites to document project work.
• Must have reliable transportation and arrive on site for the time scheduled.
Schedule:
Ongoing, year round

Small Business Organization
PAE is beginning to form a recycled materials clearinghouse for educators based on models from Boston and New York City. This internship will provide students with the framework for designing a business plan for gathering materials and for staffing, organizing, and marketing a small non-profit business. Training to include: planning, public relations, some recycling industry research, and collaboration with higher education students at Syracuse University and SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry.
Qualifications: Educational background in communications, marketing or business management.

• Must have reliable transportation and arrive on site for the time scheduled.
Schedule:
Bi-annual events: Spring and Fall spanning 3-5 week periods
