Research shows that connecting the arts to classroom study helps students build the fundamental skills in critical thinking, teamwork, visual and media literacy and creative problem-solving that are becoming essential for tomorrow's global workforce.

We are very proud of the partnerships throughout New York State that we have been able to foster through our Technical Assistance Program grants, which enable teachers and artists to take their teaching to a higher level. In Central New York, our regional art$TART grants support urban, suburban and rural schools in developing compelling, energizing and practical tools to help students and teachers transform learning and teaching for the 21st century.

This past year, the Arts In Mind initiative provided access to creative learning experiences to 3,000 K – 8 students in six Syracuse City schools, opportunities which many of the students involved would not otherwise have had. For 2009-10, more schools and local cultural organizations will together create deeper learning and authentic engagement, and foster connections between cultural experiences, artistic adventures and curriculum that will last a lifetime.
