Last Chance for TAP Grants for Summer Professional Development, Consulting
If you're thinking about getting some professional development in arts integration over the summer, a Technical Assistance Program Grant from PAE may offer help. You can use TAP funds to go to a conference, attend workshops, or work with a consultant to improve an arts partnership. Teachers, teaching artists, schools, or cultural organizations can apply. The final deadline for TAP grants for this school year is July 1. Go to our website for more information.
Opportunities
PAE joins White House Summer Service Initiative
PAE is participating in the White House Summer Service Initiative, a nationwide call to service. If you're looking for a way to do something both fun and useful over the summer (or beyond), PAE has a number of opportunities both in our office and out in the field that will give you the chance to use and expand your skills. Here are some ways you can contribute:
-If you're an undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in community arts, arts in education, or arts administration, or a dance, drama, visual, literary, music or media artist looking for experience in working with youth in education settings, you can participate in ArtWorks. Our program, which is affiliated with CNYWorks, gives young adults a chance to investigate the careers of creative community members. ArtWorks volunteers/interns help supervise young adults, mainly of high school age, as they explore various art forms, meet with and observe active arts professionals in the community, and document their discovery via journaling and a student-created website.
We would also welcome volunteers for general office help – telephone, mail, data entry, etc. – and web content editing – as we develop our new website, we need to prepare content (the pertinent skills are in writing, not technical ability).
If you're interested, please contact Maureen by email or at 315.234.9911, or go to www.serve.gov . Thank you!

The Milton Rogovin Photography Exhibit Poetry Project at Artrage
Milton Rogovin is a social documentary photographer, with a focus of photographing the poor and working class for 50 years. He has photographed miners in ten nations, collaborated with the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, photographed a six square block neighborhood in Buffalo, New York for 30 years, and so much more. In 1969 the Library of Congress accepted his entire body of work. Milton turns 100 years old this December and ArtRage is very excited to be a part of this celebration by exhibiting his work November 7 - December 19, 2009.
Students are invited to write poetry in response to any of the 50 exhibit photographs of their choosing. Teachers may submit up to 20 pieces by October 15, 2009. These twenty pieces can be individual poems, group projects, from more than one class, etc. ArtRage is willing to work with teachers to enable this project to be more of an inspiration than a chore. All of the work submitted will be included in a published booklet with some displayed with the photographs in the exhibit. Students and teachers who enroll in our poetry project will receive a photo CD of the 50 exhibit photos to work from. In the meantime, to view the photographic portfolio series in their entirety visit http://www.miltonrogovin.com/display_series.php?seriesid=22. The website also offers a variety of teachers' guides. For more information, contact Rose Viviano at 315.218.5711 or by email.
