Ted Kooser, the Poet Laureate of the U.S., will be visiting Syracuse for a meeting with students and teachers, a public reading, and other programs on Thursday, October 5, 2006. PAE is very proud to be co-sponsoring Mr. Kooser’s visit with the YMCA's Downtown Writer’s Center, the local chapter of the YMCA's national Writer's Voice program.Mr. Kooser has received many honors, including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, two NEA fellowships, and the Pushcart Prize.

October 5: Ted Kooser comes to Syracuse.
May 26: Central New York poetry partnerships will showcase their work on June 15th.
March 23: WCNY-TV will present "Ted Kooser's Poetic World" on April 10 at 11 pm.
February 22: Ted Kooser speaks with Melissa Block on NPR's All Things Considered. Listen to the interview and read his advice to beginning poets.
February 16: Teachers can receive training in how to use poetry as a powerful tool in their classrooms, no matter what subject they teach. The first workshop takes place Wednesday, March 22, 3:30 – 5:30 pm at the Syracuse Teacher Center. The second workshop will be offered on Wednesday, April 19th, 3:30 – 5:30.
January 3: Barnes and Noble, Erie Blvd. in Dewitt, is sponsoring a monthly poetry reading series, hosted by PAE's own Georgia Popoff, in conjunction with "Community Life in Poetry." The first reading, by CNY poets Michael Sickler, Ellen McNeal, Martin Walls, Beth Twiddy, and Mary Slechta was Wednesday, January 11 at 7 pm. February's reading included Jackie Warren-Moore and Team Poets from the Carnegie Renaissance Academy. March's reading featured students involved with Cicero-North Syracuse HS's "Struggles" project with local storyteller Vanessa Johnson and Chicago poet Quraysh Ali Lansana. The next reading will be Wednesday, April 12 at 7 pm.
November 11: The Syracuse Post-Standard is now publishing Ted Kooser's column "American Life in Poetry" in the Sunday Stars magazine.
October 19: NPR's All Things Considered is broadcasting a series of conversations with Ted Kooser about the craft and the pleasures of poetry. You can read Melissa's Block's article, read poems, and listen to the poet reading his work.
