Matching funds from the grant recipient are always a plus factor for any partnership grant. They are the contribution made by the granted partners to show commitment to the project, and establish the groundwork for sustainable projects.
Matching funds may be comprised of a combination of cash and in-kind resources. Examples of cash contributions include money spent on:
- materials
- busing
- payments to substitutes
- payments to teachers for after-school time
- payments to artists
Some grantees find matching funds from a PTO, district professional development funds, teacher center grants, literacy programs, extended day programs, Title 1 funds, BOCES aid, community and/or school foundations, local businesses, and fundraisers.
Examples of in-kind resources are non-cash donations of:
- time spent by teachers after school
- materials from outside groups
- volunteer time
