Community Life in Poetry Kick-off Reading Wednesday 1/11/06 7 p.m.

(Syracuse, NY, January 10, 2006) Barnes & Noble Dewitt (3454 Erie Blvd, 449.2933) will host the opening of the "Community Life in Poetry: Literacy Defined through Artistic Expression" season of arts in education and poetry as CNY prepares for the May 9th visit of Ted Kooser, America’s Poet Laureate.

Join noted local poets Ellen McNeal, Michael Sickler, Mary Slechta, Elizabeth Twiddy, Martin Walls, Jackie Warren Moore, and M.C. Georgia Popoff for a reading to celebrate our community in words.

This reading is one of a series of monthly poetry events at the Dewitt Barnes & Noble Booksellers, a sponsor of the "Community Life in Poetry" program that will link poets with schools for a variety of learning opportunities.

Additionally, there will be a luncheon on May 9th with Mr. Kooser and a public reading at the Everson Museum of Art that evening. This 4-month program is a collaboration between Partners for Arts Education and the Greater Syracuse YMCA’s Downtown Writer’s Center, with support from the New York State Council on the Arts, CNY Community Foundation, Barnes & Noble, the Syracuse City School District, and the Syracuse Post Standard. For more information about Community Life in Poetry and upcoming events, please visit the PAE web site.
