FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CNY
Poetry Partnerships Showcase Their
Work
(June 9, 2006, Syracuse)
Students and teaching artists who
worked together as part of the “Community
Life in Poetry” project will
showcase their work at a reception
on Thursday, June 15 from 7 to 8:30
pm at the Syracuse Federal Credit
Union Center for the Performing Arts,
728 East Genesee Street.
Students from seven
CNY schools worked with a poet-in-residence
on projects such as “Science
and Poetry,” “Speaking
& Listening to the World through
Poetry,” and “Poetry in
Motion.” Students from Huntington
School and Shea Middle School in Syracuse,
and Indian River High School, along
with some of the poets-in-residence,
will be there Thursday evening to
present their work. There will also
be representation from Fitzhugh Park
Elementary and Kingsford Park Elementary
in Oswego, East Avenue Middle School
in Auburn, and Jamesville-Dewitt Middle
School.
The CNY poets who
worked with students are Marj Hahn,
Deb Hutchison, Farah Marklevits, Beth
Twiddy, and Jackie Warren-Moore.
“Community
Life in Poetry” is a joint effort
by Partners for Arts Education (PAE)
and the YMCA’s Downtown Writer’s
Center to highlight poetry in our
daily lives and bring the art of poetry
into schools. The project will culminate
with the visit of U.S. Poet Laureate
Ted Kooser to Syracuse on October
5.
