“Understanding by Design” and “Teaching
for Understanding” provide
effective approaches to enrich one's
educational practice.
In this participatory
workshop, participants will review
and discuss key concepts of “Understanding
by Design” and “Teaching
for Understanding.” All
will have the opportunity to reflect
on their current practice, and to
consider new methods for incorporating
the theories discussed into their
work.

Philip
Alexander is
the Program Director of the Empire
State Partnership Professional Development
Program, where he coordinates the
ESP Summer Seminar and other programs
in support of arts-education partnerships
in NYS. Formerly Education Program
Manager at Roundabout Theatre Company,
he has served as a grant reader and
site visitor for the Center for Arts
Education, and has taught courses
in communication and theatre at colleges
in NY and PA. He completed his doctorate
in the theatre program at the CUNY
Graduate Center. His professional
mission is to bring people from different
professional and personal realms
together to solve problems in a collegial
atmosphere. |
