How can arts
educators push past the obstacle
of “teaching to
the test” in order to promote
school change in and through the
arts?
This workshop will
explore the success of three NYC
high schools founded in partnership
with Roundabout Theatre Company. Participants
will discuss policy for arts organizations
to effect school change in and through
the arts, and begin drafting school-reform
policy that is line with their organization
mission and program offerings.

Margaret
Salvante has been designing
programs to promote school reform through
theatre since 1996. In
2003 she journeyed into the education
establishment as the primary architect
of three theatre-based high schools,
as a student of the NYC Leadership
Academy, and as the founding principal
of Manhattan Theatre Lab. Through
this work, Margaret discovered the
systemic obstacles facing school
reform and has forged new pathways
for providing arts-based learning.
