Sponsored
by: Partners
for Arts Education and New York State
Council on the Arts
In partnership
with: Association
of Teaching Artists, BOCES
AIE Network,
Empire State Partnerships Professional
Development Program, New York
State Alliance for Arts Education,
New York Foundation on the Arts, and
New York State Education Department
The sponsors and partners
are actively seeking proposals
from and represent the entire range
of Arts in Education practitioners
from throughout New York State.
What do
I/we submit?
A description of Workshops, Panels,
Roundtable Discussions, etc. that
address the needs of our AIE communities.
Who will
select the sessions and how?
A panel of conference
sponsors and partners will select presenters
and offerings.
Are
you looking for something specific?
YES! The selection
process will seek to provide offerings
for the range of constituencies represented
in the AIE field. Also, we are
NOT encouraging proposals that consist
solely of a “show-and-tell” of
your project (see PLUS FACTORS). Workshop
slots are 90 minutes long.
We are accepting proposals in the
following areas:
CORE
KNOWLEDGE
These sessions should be designed
to meet the needs of new or emerging
AIE practitioners. Workshops
in this strand should focus on
the rudiments of our field based
on the question “What would
a new member of our field need
to know in order to be knowledgeable
and effective?” Topics
might include: working in NYS schools,
NYS assessments, NYS Arts Standards,
Classroom Management, partnership
basics, grant writing, etc.
CURRICULUM
and ASSESSMENT
These sessions should be designed
to meet the needs of participants
with diverse backgrounds and levels
of field experience. Workshops
in this strand should focus on
best practices in curriculum design
and implementation as well as effective
assessment strategies. Topics
might include: theories of curriculum
development, curriculum mapping,
item analysis, parallel task design,
rubrics, portfolios, incorporating
new technology, etc.
EDUCATION
and POLICY REFORM
These
sessions should be designed
to meet the needs of more experienced
AIE professionals. Workshops
in this strand should focus on the
way in which the field of AIE can
more effectively shape the landscape
of education, drive school reform
initiatives, and create social change. Topics
might include: No Child Left Behind,
Title One Innovations, interfacing
with higher education, standardized
testing, charter schools, lobbying,
etc.
In addition the panel will consider
the following to be PLUS
FACTORS:
- Participatory Design:
Participatory workshops include
opportunities for attendees to
be actively engaged in the session
(as opposed to being passive observers). Panel
presentations will be strictly
limited.
- Research-Based Models:
With these opportunities, attendees
would see how research methodology
can be/has been applied to AIE
partnerships and projects.
- Reflective Practice: Sessions
with a reflective component provide
an opportunity for the participants
to consider the overall impact
of a project or idea, explore essential
questions, propose opportunities
for replication, etc.
- Higher
Education Partnerships:
Arts in education is becoming a
subject of academic research. How
does arts in education help universities
to connect to local communities?
- Technology as a Tool:
How do we make new technologies
accessible to student artmakers
and teaching artists? How does
technology change how they create
and experience art?
- Global Citizenship:
What does being a “global
citizen” mean, and how
can arts-in-education become a
tool to promote global citizenship?
How will
I/we apply?
Review the RFP Worksheet below,
and then fill out
the online
RFP.
Will I/we
be paid for presenting?
The lead presenter
from each workshop will attend the
conference free of charge, and will
receive hotel accommodations for
one night plus up to $100 in travel
reimbursement (outside a 60 mile
radius of Albany).
What is the DEADLINE?
All proposals must be submitted
online by midnight of Friday, November
16, 2007.
