June 15: CNY Poetry Partnerships Showcase, 7:00 - 8:30, Syracuse Credit Union Center for the Arts, 728 E. Genesee St., Syracuse
Students from seven CNY school showcase the work they did with poets in residence.

April 19: Workshop for CNY Teachers, Demystifying the Poem, 3:30 – 5:30.

April 12: Poetry Reading, 7 pm, Barnes & Noble, 3454 Erie Boulevard East, Dewitt
Poets from Nottingham High School's Meadowbrook Magazine. Co-sponsored by YMCA's Downtown Writer's Center.

April 10: WCNY-TV presents "Ted Kooser's Poetic World," 11 - 11:30 pm.

March 22: Workshop for SCSD Teachers: Demystifying the Poem, 3:30 – 5:30 pm

March 8: Poetry Reading, 7 pm, Barnes & Noble, 3454 Erie Boulevard East, Dewitt Poets: Quraysh Ali Lansana, Vanessa Johnson, and students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School's "Struggles" project (funded by PAE's art$TART grant). Co-sponsored by YMCA's Downtown Writer's Center.

SCSD Laureate Teams:
Each of the 36 city schools will develop their own creative expression of “Community Life in Poetry” for the Laureate Teams to bring to the luncheon. Syracuse City Schools will each send a “Laureate Team” of two students and one teacher to represent their school community at the luncheon on May 9th.

February through May
School Poetry Partnerships:
Central New York schools will participate in artist residencies with local professional poets. Special funding for a limited number of partnerships will be available. For information and an application contact PAE.

Wednesday, January 11th, 7 pm Barnes & Noble, Erie Blvd, Dewitt
Kick-off Poetry Reading. Featured poets include members of the project's Laureate Council and community poets who will be in residence in local schools.

February to May (and beyond)

A dedicated section of our website will publish the weekly national column “American Life in Poetry,” edited by Mr. Kooser, along with student writing and artwork as a countdown to May 9th. After May, the website will remain and PAE will use it to showcase student work from their funded partnerships.


"Community Life in Poetry" Day - October 5.

All events take place at Onondaga Community College.

Student Meeting, 3:00 - 4:30 pm
Question and Answer session with area students and teachers from special poetry projects at Storer Auditorium. Free and open to the public. 

Benefit Reception, 5:30 - 7:00 pm - Cocktail reception at Gordon Student Center. Supporters of the YMCA's Downtown Writer's Center and PAE can join Mr. Kooser at a reception before the reading. Proceeds will benefit both agencies' programs. Tickets range from $125 to $5000 and include admission to the reading. (click here for sponsorship information). Public Reading, 7:30 pm  Limited tickets available..
As part of the YMCA's Downtown Writer’s Center’s Spring 2006 Visiting Author Reading Series, Mr. Kooser will read his poetry at Storer Auditorium. There will be a book signing afterwards. Contact Phil Memmer at the DWC at 474-6851 x328.
