“Connections”
Students were exposed
to Alexander Calder's mobiles through
videos. Concepts of focus, balance,
and problem solving were explored
as each student built his/her own
mobile with wire, pliers, and colorful
wood forms. The mobile provides an
example of working together, harmony,
and community.

a sense

Students learned
about the paintings of Joan Miro through
books, posters, and the internet.
Each group of six students designed
and painted its own acrylic-on-canvas
mural using the theme of Miro's Constellation
series. Concepts of listening, cooperation,
collaboration, and decision making
were a focus as the students worked
together on this large-scale activity.

work and problem solving took
