Technical Assistance Program (TAP)
Grants f
or New York State Teaching Artists, Schools & Non-Profit Cultural Organizations

TAP supports the exchange of professional expertise between New York State schools and their cultural partners to promote the continued growth and improvement of long-term, in-depth relationships centered on teaching and learning in and through the arts to benefit pre-K through 12th grade children.

TAP applications are reviewed in cycles; the 2007- 08 deadlines are: September 1, November 1, February 1, April 1, and June 1.

Award letters are sent within 3 weeks after each deadline, subject to availability of funds. Awards range from $100 to $2,500.

Funding can be requested for technical assistance to strengthen your arts-in-education partnerships in the following categories:
Planning and Capacity Building
Curriculum Design
Assessment and Evaluation
Professional Development

Individuals, NYS schools, school districts, and non-profit cultural organizations are eligible to apply. NYS teaching artists who have been NYS residents for one year previous to the application deadline and are not matriculated in a degree granting program are also eligible to apply.

There is a special CG-TAP Grant specifically for attending CommonGround.  Do not use the regular TAP application for CommonGround expenses.

The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Empire State Partnership (ESP) Arts in Education program is the model by which we measure success. TAP applications should address relevant issues specific to integrating arts into education programs that benefit children. Preference will be given to applicants that provide matching support for project costs.

TAP will NOT support:
- staff positions or projects that appear to provide for staff positions;
- residency projects that involve direct contact between teaching artists and children;
- the purchase of equipment or the production expenses for marketing materials;
- more than one TAP request per applicant per year.

Recommendations for the technical assistance experts that are best for your program or that are located in your region can be found by contacting Partners for Arts Education (PAE), NYSCA Arts in Education Dept. (NYSCA-AIE),  your regional Local Capacity Building (LCB) re-grant coordinator or your regional Arts Ed Roundtables.

This program is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts,
a state agency.
