Students:
36 3rd - 4th
grade core students and 68 3rd
graders.
BIG
IDEA: Many
artistic and educational elements
can be combined under one theme for the entire school community.
Action: The
“core group” of multi-age 3/4th
graders worked daily on the central
project: a medieval theatrical project
which culminated in final performance
given to the entire student body and
community.
Planning:
Many
planning sessions pre and mid-way
through the residency with frequent
artist – teacher consultation throughout
the residency.
Implementation:
Introductory musical storytelling
and performance by the artists followed
by classroom workshops on music, art,
costuming and dance in the middle
ages. These were followed by
instruction in theatre skills and
rehearsal of the “Chanticleer”s Tale”
A Music, Dance and Theatre Pageant
which was performed by all students
in Grades 3 and Grade 3 / 4.
Evaluation:
Reflection
using Document Based Questioning about
the whole project. Expression noted
in the student’s ability to express
what they have learned
through language and drama.
Analysis and Testing showed student
benchmarks in alignment with NYS standards.
