Common Ground 2005
The 2005 CommonGround arts in education conference, held in Buffalo New York was a powerful gathering of educators, artists, leaders, and parents. In addition to the opportunity to spend 'quality time' with our leaders at the New York State Council on the Arts, we were able to expand our advocacy efforts and get some real work done!

Highlights included the:

-   Energized 'Arts Works for Kids' celebration presented by the Coalition of Arts Providers for Children;

-  Wisdom and worldview of Doug Herbert, Special Assistant to the US Secretary of Education. His presentation is available at http://www.arts4ed.org/conference/CG05/index.shtml;

-   Emotional and inspiring art and message from Marc Bamuthi Joseph. A video of his work and mission is at http://www.arts4ed.org/conference/CG05/mbjoseph.shtml;

-  Reflective visioning of Dr. John Woodall;

-  Celebration and recognition of excellence by the Association of Teaching Artists. Their mission and information is at http://www.teachingartists.com/ .

For a peek at the people and events of the gathering, check out our photo album at http://www.arts4ed.org/conference/CG05/index.shtml !

Mark your calendars, check your travel itinerary.next year we will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester in early April. Proposals for workshops will be solicited in the fall.

THANK YOU for sharing your expertise and establishing true CommonGround!

Funding
School Arts Partnership Grant Applications Due Soon!
If you are thinking of applying for a SAP Grant for next year, the application deadline for academic year 2005-06 is May 23, 2005. The application and guidelines are available on our website at http://www.arts4ed.org/funding/SAP_index.shtml.

A change this year: to speed the processing, all applicants are being asked to complete an on-line "registration form," which can printed to serve as the cover sheet for the application.

The School Arts Partnership program, a statewide funding initiative administered by Partners for Arts Education and supported by the Arts in Education Program at NYSCA, is designed to promote widespread participation of schools and the cultural community in arts in education. SAP provides funding support for partnerships between schools and teaching artists or cultural organizations that focus on the interdisciplinary or integrated study of the arts and non-arts subjects. Eligible projects will involve a direct collaboration between at least one classroom teacher and one teaching artist.

Technical Assistance
