Summer’s
on its way
The school year is ending and we are looking forward
to the period of planning and growth
that comes when we gather together
at the Empire State Partnerships
Summer Seminar, when we review
proposals for arts in education
partnerships to be funded in the
coming year, when we design our
budgets, and when we plot our oh-so-necessary
getaways and retreats.
PAE will be using this time to review the results
of CommonGround (attendance data available
at our website, pictures coming
soon) to provide the most effective
statewide arts-in-education professional
development conference for you
in 2007. We will be attending the
Arts Education Partnership Forum
again to bring home the national
conversations on partnerships with
higher education and trends in
funding, and we will be in conversations
with many of you as we receive
documentation and stories from
another year of School Arts Partnerships
(SAP) and Technical Assistance
Program (TAP) grants.
Thank YOU for shaping the work to be done!

School Arts Partnership Grants
Over
40 applications have come in from
around the state for the next cycle
of SAP grants. They have been sent
out to the panelists, and will
be reviewed by the panel on June
19th and 20th. Confirmations of grant awards will be
available after our Board has approved
the panelists’ decisions, around the end of
July.
Technical
Assistance
TAP Grants
Technical Assistance Program grants provide
support for projects that develop, enhance, and/or evaluate arts education
programs benefiting children pre-K
to 12th grade. The grant is for projects that involve planning, professional
development, evaluation and sustainability. Awards
range from $100 to $1,000. NYS
schools, school districts, and
non-profit cultural organizations,
and NYS teaching artists are eligible
to apply. TAP is not meant to support artist residency
activities.
The on-line application for
TAP Grants is available on our
website. The last of the four yearly
deadlines is May
1st.
The on-line format makes it easier
for us to track and process your
application, and easier for our
virtual panel to evaluate. We
think you’ll find it easy
to use. You
can download a Word or PDF version
of the application to check the
grant guidelines and do any preliminary
work, and then simply enter the
information on the on-line form.
If you would like more information about
these grants, visit our website,
or email RJ.

Professional artists and educators
offer high-quality instruction
to support stellar performances
as part of the Institute’s
rigorous approach, known as aesthetic
education. Come ready to dance,
paint, make music, improvise a
theater scene, and explore the
ways in which art inspires teaching
and learning. Bring along your
own expertise, network with other
dedicated educators, and refresh
your teaching tool kit. Each workshop
features a dynamic balance between
philosophy and practice, activity
and reflection, and personal and
group inquiries. Open to any pre-K
through grade 12 teacher,
school and/or arts administrator,
teaching artist, curriculum developer,
or teacher/educator not currently
affiliated with an aesthetic education
program.
- Acquire a learning and teaching
methodology that you can use
in your school.
- Understand how works of art can serve as the focus for
study of diverse subjects.
- Learn how to support that study by art-making, inquiry,
reflection, and contextual research.
- Enable your students to develop skills of perception
and description, develop their
imagination, and transform inspiration
into creative action.
