Autumn Renewal
While summer heat is fading, there is still a lot of growing going on..

Arts in education partnerships are flourishing in New York State EVERYWHERE! From the Adirondacks to Buffalo, from Queens to Ithaca, from Long Island to Albany, educators and artists are bringing students to the highest levels of critical thinking and generating excitement in learning.

We know this because results are flowing in from over 75 grants that were generated from PAE in 2003-04 thanks to the New York State Council on the Arts. Of these grants, half have supported partnerships and the rest have provided professional development and technical assistance to the professionals in our statewide community. PAE staff has been to schools, studios, community centers, neighborhoods, and administrative offices.and we have seen the impact of Empire State Partnerships and NYSCA leadership on the quality of student learning at every level.

We are proud to be able to offer assistance to NYS arts in education practitioners for another year, and look forward to meeting you at a roundtable meeting, grant orientation, conference, or planning session this coming year. Take some time to visit our website at www.arts4ed.org for the latest news in School Arts Partnership and Technical Assistance funding, or to generate enthusiasm for another exciting CommonGround (Buffalo 2005!).

Welcome Back!

Funding
SAP Grants Update
The panel for the 2004-05 round of SAP grants met on August 31st and September 1st to review the 64 applications we received from around the state.  The panel has forwarded its recommendations to PAE's Board of Directors.  Pending Board approval at their meeting on September 27, we will officially notify all applicants of their funding status. Funds will become available as soon as the NYS Legislature releases funds to NYSCA.

Technical Assistance
TAP Grants Update
Technical Assistance Program (TAP) Grants are available again.
With a simplified application, email submission, and speedy response, TAP grants are available again for your technical assistance needs. Check out our new application on our website at www.arts4ed.org  and as always, call or email us with your questions and input. There will be TAP grants for CommonGround 2005. It will be the same application, with slightly modified criteria for approval. The first deadline will be December 1st, 2004. Applicants may receive one of each grant (regular TAP and Common Ground TAP) in a funding year (September 1 through August 31).

TAP provides subsidies for New York State teaching artists, schools and non-profit cultural organizations for consultants, travel and professional development opportunities that develop, enhance and/or evaluate arts education programs benefiting children Pre-K to 12th grade.

TAP applications should address relevant issues specific to integrating arts into education programs that benefit children. TAP is not meant to support artist residency activities. Awards range from $100 to $1,000.TAP applications are reviewed in 5 cycles and must be emailed on or before one of the following deadlines:  October 1, December 1, February 1, April 1, June 1.

Common Ground '05

Planning has already begun for next year's Common Ground Conference.  Save the date - April 7 - 10, 2005 at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency. TAP funds will be available starting in December. We have a local team in Buffalo that is already gearing up to show you a great time and make you conference stay smooth and pleasant.

Regional advisory committees are forming.  See your Arts in Ed Roundtable coordinator for details.  We'll provide more information as it becomes available.

Through SPECTRA+, children at Adams Elementary School in Hamilton , Ohio experience the arts as part of each of their core subjects and participate in a class in each of four art disciplines every week, taught by certified arts instructors. Teachers work together on lesson plans so concepts learned in both arts and non-arts classes are coordinated and reinforce each other. SPECTRA+ brings the fine arts into the curriculum and the curriculum into the arts.
