Workshops for Teachers – “Demystifying
the Poem”
As part of the project, PAE is offering a 2-hour
workshop that will look at poetry
as not only a stand-alone unit of
study with ELA teachers but a powerful
tool in any classroom. Hands-on activities to share with students will
be presented along with methods of
strengthening reading comprehension,
cross-curricular applications, and
general elements of poetry as a creative
art to integrate into core subject
instruction.
The
workshop is open to all CNY teachers
on Wednesday, April 19th, 3:30 – 5:30. Please call PAE at 234.9911 to register by Friday,
April 14 for this free
training opportunity. (There is a
minimum
enrollment of 5 for the workshop.)
The workshop will be facilitated by Georgia Popoff, a CNY community poet. It is sponsored by PAE as part of the Community Life through Poetry program,
with funding from the CNY Community
Foundation.

CommonGround
Arts-in-Ed Conference
The 2006 edition of CommonGround was perhaps our
most exciting, stimulating, and, well,
fun conference yet! CNY arts in education community members made
a great showing with:
- Marlene Roeder from the Everson Museum participating
in the Museum Initiative;
- Heidi Holtz from the Rosamond Gifford Foundation
collaborating in a funding forum;
- Meredith Snow sharing expertise on therapeutic
arts learning;
- Michael Cunningham from Liverpool Schools and Marty
Evans from Watkins Glen offering administrative
perspectives with Marsha Wheeler from
Oswego BOCES.
Lesley Tillotson (CNY Arts Council), Lauren Unbekant
(Syracuse Stage), Pete Rush (Hangar
Theatre), Anne Rhodes (Teaching Artist),
Kathy Moragne (Ilion Schools), and
many, many more CNY neighbors brought
their voices into the mix to advocate
for stronger arts in education practice
in our region.
For a peek at the inspiriting keynote speakers and
the workshops that we attended, check

Roundtable Does the Introductions
The CNY Arts Ed Roundtable met at the Assisi Center
Auditorium to introduce this newly
available performance space and welcome
it to our network. People enjoyed the “Speed Networking”
as a less formal way to discuss needs,
skills, and plant seeds for future
partnerships and projects. We had 17 energetic attendees,
and nine were at Roundtable for the
first time. Welcome!
The final Roundtable for the 2005-06 season will
be on Tuesday, June 20, 3:30-5:30. We’ll keep you posted.
