PAE Postcard January 2006

CNY Roundtable
The 2006 CNY Arts Education Roundtable starts on Tuesday, January 17th from 3:30-5:30 pm at the Delavan Center Gallery, 501 West Fayette Street, near Armory Square.  This Roundtable will focus on finding funding for arts in education in schools:  existing grant opportunities, how to access BOCES dollars, fundraising ideas, Teacher Center resources, and community involvement.

Matthew Wentworth of Oswego County BOCES Arts in Education and PAE's Sue Stonecash will give overviews, and there will be discussion among participants to share ideas.  Please join us for this conversation; feel free to bring a teacher, a concerned parent, an artist who does school work or is looking to find ways to share his or her art with schools.

Contact Georgia Popoff at 234.9911 or by email to RSVP by Monday, January 16th.

And don't forget our CNY AER membership program!  Benefits of membership include discounts for selected PAE events and training opportunities, the ability to cite membership in your own promotional materials, and a PAE tote bag.  There are no membership fees, just a commitment to attend at least two of the four annual meetings.  It couldn't be simpler. You can find a CNY AER membership form at the website.

Syracuse Stage Benefit Performance
On Wednesday, March 1st at 7:30 pm, Syracuse Stage presents a performance of Obie Award-winning playwright Lynn Nottage's Intimate Apparel to benefit PAE. Intimate Apparel received the New York Drama Critics Circle and Outer Critics Circle Awards for best play of the season in 2004. Based on the life of the playwright's African-American grandmother who made undergarments for socialites and scandalous ladies, this gentle yet passionate play is an exquisite piece as rich and delicate as that intricate lingerie.

At a pre-performance reception we will be honoring this year's art$TART recipients (see article below) and displaying the work of Nottingham High School students who are using Intimate Apparel as a springboard for theater and fiber-arts study.  Join us for the celebration, see the play, or both.  You can order tickets for this special performance by calling Kristin at PAE at 234.9911, or email her at kristin@arts4ed.org .  Please make your reservations by Friday, February , We look forward to sharing this exciting and thoughtful play with you.

Last Chance for Sponsorships for "Community Life in Poetry"
There is still time to become a sponsor of Community Life in Poetry with featured guest Ted Kooser, the Poet Laureate of the United States.  You or your organization can bring one CNY school's "Laureate Team" to attend the May 9th luncheon and Q&A.  All levels of sponsorship carry with them admission to the cocktail reception with Mr. Kooser at the Everson Museum, and also to his reading following the reception.  Other benefits at various levels include copies of Delights and Shadows, Ted Kooser's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, advertising in the event program, framed copies of the limited-edition "broadside" poster featuring Mr. Kooser's poetry,  not to mention the intangible rewards of being a part of a major cultural event in our community.

In the meantime, you can enjoy Mr. Kooser's column, American Life in Poetry, weekly in the Post Standard's Stars on Sundays (and via our website).  Ted Kooser's visit is co-sponsored by Partners for Arts Education and the YMCA's Downtown Writer's Center.
