At the 3rd annual Arts and Curriculum Institute, elementary school teachers will learn strategies using
music, poetry, and dance to teach K – 4 students reading comprehension, while
developing the characteristics of effective readers. Master teaching artists
Susan Griss and Julie Kabat team teach the workshops. Lessons balance discovery
and engagement with time for reflection to ensure that all participants will be
able to use these arts strategies in the classroom. In addition, Joyce Rubin,
Chair of the Education Department at Skidmore, will be leading a daily seminar
where participants will discuss classroom applications.
