AIE

The
Arts in Education Partnership Seminar
Series begins this week on Saturday, March
12 with "Arts-in-Education Tool Kit - The Artist in the Classroom Community" with photographer/teaching
artist Kathie
Maniaci and 4th
grade teacher Diana Ebner.
If you're a teaching artist
or classroom teacher looking to clarify
your understanding of the relationships
between curriculum and NYS standards
and the arts, Kathie and Diana can
help you evolve from ideas to implementation
as they share their experiences and
know-how.
On March 19, Mark Wright of the Cultural Resources
Council and jazz singer and teaching
artist Jacque
Tara Washington present
Arts in Education Careers- Business Practices for Success to help arts-in-education professionals negotiate the practicalities
of taxes, insurance requirements &
bookkeeping, background checks &
state regulations, self-promotion,
the search for grants, and getting work in schools.
The
six-part seminar series runs through
May 21 on Saturday mornings at OCC. Full descriptions of the seminars and facilitators
are just a click away on PAE's web
site at: http://www.arts4ed.org/training_opportunities/pships_spr05_index.shtml.

Christine
Goodheart
On
Friday, March 4th, Christine
Goodheart spent the day planning and forecasting
potential for the state of arts in
education and community partnership
for Central New
York. This was an inspirational and productive experience
that kept Christine hopping from a
breakfast meeting with higher education
representatives and community organizations
to the "fishbowl" examination of a
21st Century Community
of Learning afterschool partnership,
a great lunch buffet and keynote address,
and then a detailed group examination
of two arts organizations that are
focusing on arts in education initiatives.
Then we celebrated the 2005
art$TART grant recipients with a dessert
spread and brief networking time as
the symposium wound down.
As
the start of the season PAE has planned
for training in AIE, it was a magnificent
experience and we are grateful to
all who attended and made it the success
we witnessed.
Please look at the web site
for the other components of this comprehensive
program for professional development
in our field.
Please join us for any or all
of the seminars and to experience
Lily Yeh in June.
Many thanks to the NYS Council
on the Arts and Bill Magnarelli for
their invaluable support for this
program.
