International Arts Leader Lily Yeh Coming to Syracuse
Lily Yeh will share her wisdom as a leader who has used education through the arts to empower people and communities.  Her work is embodied in the Philadelphia Village of Arts & Humanities and in communities around the world.

The Thursday, June 2 afternoon-long symposium includes a 12:00 – 1:30 luncheon at the Marx Hotel with Ms. Yeh speaking on “Community Empowerment through the Arts,” followed by three discussion sessions addressing the role of the arts as a community resource here in Central New York.   

1:30-4:30 Breakout Sessions include:

Ř      Beyond the Wall: Lessons Learned with Public Art
Mark Topp from Syracuse Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs and mosaic artist Ginger Dunlap Dietz will share a history of challenge and success through local community arts and education projects.
Ř      Neighborhood Revival: Thinking Beyond the Work of Art
Maren King and Heather Brubaker from SUNY-ESF Center for Community Design will evaluate an urban design partnership that is developing with multi-level learning at the core.
Ř      Community Artists and Learning
Central New York community leaders, educators, and teaching artists share
experience for expanding their artistry outside of the studio and into the   
“community classroom.”

Pete Rush, Education Director of Ithaca’s Hangar Theater, and Greene Elementary teacher Sue Carlin will showcase programs that have measurable impact on student learning at all ages and in all content areas.
May 21
Teaching Artistry to Deepen Creativity - Goals for Artistic Growth

Ceramicist and mosaic artist Ginger Dunlap-Dietz, dancer and Utica Arts in Education Institute Director Leslie Tillotson, and musician Tom Seiling share how the arts in ed process brings an artist to a deeper understanding of the artistic process through mentoring and inspiring students.

June 4
Arts in Education Careers – Business Practices for Success
Mark Wright of the Cultural Resources Council and musician and teaching artist Jacque Tara Washington offer nuts-and-bolts tools for careers as arts in education professionals, including taxes, insurance requirements and bookkeeping, background checks and state regulations, grant opportunities, self-promotion and getting work in schools.

SUMMER ARTS PROGRAM

 DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH  
Syracuse Stage seeks a creative, self-motivated team player to develop, implement and manage its educational outreach programs.  Reports jointly to Producing Director and Artistic Director.   Programs focus on students, educators and adults in the Central NY region.  Special emphasis on integration of NYS Learning Standards and curriculum driven collaboration with school districts.  Oversee study guides, children’s tour, student matinees, teacher workshops, actor in the classroom, young playwrights’ festival, new programs, web site content for education.  Assist in researching and applying for educational grants.
