PAE Postcard October 2004

Apply now for an art$TART Grant
You can make your vision of exciting, joyful, and profound learning through the arts a reality in the classroom.  But you need to get your ideas on paper soon - the deadline for applications for art$TART grants is October 29, 2004.

Grants of up to $2500 are available to all public & private pre-K thru 12 schools in Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties.  The grants support community artists/cultural organizations to partner with schools in integrating the arts across content areas & grade levels to meet the NYS learning standards.

You can get information and the application for the art$TART grant for the 2004 - 05 school year online at http://www.arts4ed.org/artstart/index.shtml.

art$TART is a matching grant - schools must provide matching funds in a combination of cash and in-kind resources.  We can help you find ways to access matching funds.

You must contact PAE before submitting your application.  We will be happy to help you with the application process.  Give us a call at 234.9911.

TAP Grants Available
TAP (Technical Assistance Program) provides funds to New York State teaching artists, schools and non-profit cultural organizations for consultants, travel and professional development opportunities that develop, enhance and/or evaluate arts education programs benefiting children Pre-K to 12th grade.  Grants are awarded five times a year.  The next deadline is December 1, 2004.

You can get more information and the application at http://www.arts4ed.org, or call us at 234.9911.

It's Dress-Up Time.
Looking for an excuse to put a costume on at the end of this month?  Looking for a place to hear great jazz in beautiful surroundings?  Marcia Rutledge and her Jazz trio will be playing live at the Delavan Center Gallery 6 - 9 pm on Friday, October 29.  Costumes are encouraged and the most intriguing will be publicly recognized!  A contribution to the Delevan Gallery of $10 is recommended.

CNY Roundtable Resumes
The first meeting of the 2004 - 05 CNY Roundtable will convene on Wednesday, October 20th from 12:30 - 2:30.  This meeting is targeted for CNY cultural organizations.  We will be welcomed by Ellen Schwartz, Education Director at Open Hand Theater.

This will be a working lunch roundtable.  We will be resuming the initiatives set forth in our June retreat day at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, including shared funding opportunities, programming considerations (knowing what each other does/offers), and shared needs (alliance for pooling resources and awareness of concerns).

Open Hand is located at 518 Prospect Avenue, where N. Salina, Prospect, and Ash Streets all meet.  The entrance is on the Ash Street side of the building. You can learn more about Open Hand Theater at www.openhandtheater.org , or call 315-476-0466.

Please RSVP to Georgia at PAE by Monday, October 18th via email or phone (234.9911) if you will be attending.
