Last Chance for an 08-09 art$TART Grant
The time for you to apply for an art$TART grant is now! Up to $2500 in matching funds is available for partnerships between teachers and teaching artists or cultural organizations that use an art form to teach to the NYS Standards in any subject. The deadline is October 27, so don't hesitate! If you need information, go to our website, email Sue, or call her at 234 9911.


PAE's Online Auction Opens October 27

On October 27 PAE will be launching its first online benefit auction! For a few weeks, you'll be able to bid on an exciting array of vacation packages, artwork, entertainment, merchant services, and other delights for yourself or for gift-giving. You can view our preview page to see a few of the items that will be available starting on the 27th. You can also email the page to friends you think would be interested. Once you've registered and the auction opens, you can bid on anything in our catalog – over 40 items, and still growing! The auction will also be open to over 70,000 nationwide members of Bidding for Good, so if you see something you like, get in there quick! We will continue to add items over the course of the auction, so keep checking back for new goodies!

Perhaps you'd like to participate by offering something for our catalog. If you would like to donate a tax-deductible item or service for auction, or would like to become an auction sponsor, please contact Kristin Swift by email or at 315.234.9911.

Calling All CNY Teaching Artists
PAE has begun to collect data on teaching artists in the area to assess our local TA resources, and also to begin the process of welcoming new teaching artists into in-school and afterschool TA position in schools that PAE is working with. The survey asks about your professional training, experience, and skills. Click here to go to the survey, or you can access it from our home page.

Syracuse Opera Education Fair/Open Rehearsal
Wednesday, October 22, 6:00 PM
Educators are invited to see an open dress rehearsal of Syracuse Opera’s award-winning co-production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute with the bigger-than-life sized Puppets of Open Hand Puppet Theatre. You can tour the lobby and see the latest offerings of Syracuse Opera’s Educational Enrichment Program. On display will be the sets of Syracuse Opera's two newest Educational Shows:  OPERAMANIA and Barrio Bohème.Also, discover the details about the Tecumseh Elementary Mask and Puppet project. Jobs for Artists: Immediate Openings
The Arts Branch of the YMCA, the largest provider of after school arts education in the Syracuse City School District, is hiring for several positions in its after school programs. Positions are available for Monday-Wednesday-Friday, Tuesday-Thursday, or Friday-only positions. Successful applicants must:

  1. Be available from 3:00-5:15 pm.
  2. Have an undergraduate degree in the visual, literary, or performing arts, or a history of high-quality work in the arts.
  3. Experience working with children.
  4. Be available to work beginning in late October through the end of May, 2009.

Invite Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest into Your High School's ELA Classrooms
Registration Deadline: October 31, 2008
Poetry Out Loud is a national program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. Beginning at the classroom level, winners will advance to the school-wide competition, then to the state capital competition, and ultimately to the National Finals in Washington, D.C. Upon registration, teachers will receive dynamic teaching tools that will invoke students' excitement about literature and poetry recitation, including sample lesson plans, audio CDs of poets reciting their own famous works, publicity materials for school competitions, and a DVD of winning student performances from the 2007 Poetry Out Loud National Finals.
