Ted Kooser Delights Poetry Lovers of All Ages

Recent U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winner Ted Kooser came to Onondaga Community College on October 5, presented by the YMCA’s Downtown Writer’s Center (DWC) and PAE, in collaboration with OCC’s Arts Across Campus.  Many, many thanks to all our sponsors who made this wonderful event possible.

Mr. Kooser held a lively and thoughtful question and answer session with area students in the afternoon, and read his own poetry in the evening.  At an early-evening reception, local poets read work their Poetry Partnerships students had written, making a deep impression on the audience.

You can see pictures of the day’s events at PAE’s website.

Arts Learning and Arts Leadership Seminar 2007 in Italy

We are all working to move the arts to their rightful place in the center of our school and community life.  Why not see how others around the world are already doing it? Participate in an Arts in Education Seminar in Siena, Italy in February 2007

Teachers, arts administrators, artists, and civic leaders take a week of study, discussion, international exchange, and lots of amazing food!  Each day will include visits to important artistic sites/events, discussions with Italian civic, arts and education leaders, guided discussions with our faculty, and opportunities for creating a new vision for our Arts in Education community in the US.

Since its roots in the Roman Empire, Siena has placed the Arts in the center of its educational and civic life. We will explore the ways that Siena ’s artistic life remains a powerful force in the way that children are educated and the way that their city thrives.  We will also visit nearby Italian hill towns and the exciting city of Florence to see how the Arts have affected their culture and history.  Each day will also allow for both group and individual reflection on how these strategies can be adapted to help achieve the goals of our schools, arts organizations and communities.

For more information, go to http://www.artforbrains.com/ .  The deadline for deposits is October 23.
