PAE Postcard September 2004

A new year begins!
The start of the school year brings with it a surge of energy, anticipation, and fresh ideas.  It’s a great time to touch base with your collaborators, supporters, and leaders to remind them of your successes and share your aspirations for what you want to accomplish this year.  Strengthen and broaden your base, reach out to new partners, and . . .

Apply for an art$TART Grant
As the new school year opens, make plans to bring learning alive with the arts. You can access information and the application for the art$TART grant for the 2004 – 05 school year online at http://www.arts4ed.org/artstart/index.shtml.

art$TART grants of up to $2500 are available to all public & private pre-K thru 12 schools in Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties.  The grants support community artists/cultural organizations to partner with schools in integrating the arts across content areas & grade levels to meet the NYS learning standards.

art$TART is a matching grant – schools must provide matching funds in a combination of cash and in-kind resources.

Grantwriting sessions are held to simplify the application process for you, and when needed, to help identify the best artist or school partner for the project.  Sessions are being held mid-September through early October in several CNY locations. For a schedule, go to www.arts4ed/artstart/artstart7_calendar.shtml. You must attend one of these upcoming sessions OR contact PAE before submitting your application!

The deadline for applications is October 29, 2004.  Funds will be available on January 3, 2005.

Around CNY
There are lots of exciting things happening in our community – too many to list here.  If you’re looking for training opportunities or other arts-in-ed events, give us a call at 234.9911.

PAE is still growing!
Partners for Arts Education now provides funding and support for arts-in-education both in Central New York and throughout New York State.  To better serve both our constituencies, we now have two divisions.  Laura Reeder remains Executive Director and fearless leader.  For questions about funding, including art$TART and TAP, talk to Sue Stonecash.  Georgia Popoff handles the CNY Roundtable, extended day programs, and other CNY concerns.  Connie Walters oversees network information and communications, including this postcard and the website.  We have also hired RJ Rapoza, most recently of Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, as administrative director for NYS programs.  All of us can be reached at 234.9911 or via our website, www.arts4ed.org.

We want to thank the New York State Council on the Arts, Senator John DeFrancisco, and Assemblyman William Magnarelli for their consistent support for continued funding for PAE.
