“Arts in
Mind” Pilots at Four
SCSD Schools
Throughout
summer 2007, PAE convened a series
of work group meetings to begin
framing a pilot program for an
arts-in-education master plan with
the Syracuse City School District.
Based primarily on the Dallas Art
Partners “Big Thought” initiative
as a model, Arts in Mind is now
in formulation stages and implementing
a pilot program with four city
schools. One of the keys to the
success that Arts in Mind hopes
to realize is a collaborative effort
among all three stakeholder groups
- schools, arts and cultural organizations,
and funding resource providers
- to serve the community at large
and the students in our schools.
Mission
Statement and Goals:
Quality
cultural education for every student
in every school:
• sustain
high quality arts in education
for every SCSD student from Pre-K
through grade 12.
• provide
educators and cultural partners
with tools and resources for professional,
sustainable arts in education.
• embrace
and integrate the wealth of arts
in education and cultural resources
that exist throughout Central New
York.
• actively
involve stakeholders in building
strategies for education delivery,
cultural excellence, and leveraging
resources for engaging, effective
education through the arts.
The
four pilot schools include two
on the south side: McKinley-Brighton
Magnet Elementary and Danforth
Middle Schools, and two on the
north side: Franklin Arts Magnet
and Grant Middle Schools. A web
site for Arts in Mind will be launched
in the near future with preliminary
profiles of the pilot schools and
key advisors in the program.
Additionally, PAE has launched a
survey for arts and cultural organizations
that takes about 10 minutes. If
you are an arts provider or cultural
organization, please click on this
link and add your profile: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=rhi0XOO_2bP9DKQeW27XHfcg_3d_3d
Any
community member interested in
the monthly planning meetings and
getting involved in Arts in Mind
is welcome to join our work group.
Monthly meetings are held on the
first Wednesdays at the S.U. Warehouse,
Room 002 (the corner of West Street
and West Fayette). For more information
regarding Arts in Mind in general
or with specific questions, please
contact PAE at 234.9911.
